I had a terrible stay here. Visited: May 2008 |

Three years ago, this was a wonderful place to stay. My last experience was much worse.
The staff was indifferent -and even rude. The room was mosquito infested. The food at the restaurant was good, assuming that you can ever find someone to take your order! |

If you prefer laid-back surroundings, great service, and feeling like you are part of the family, the Tamarind Club in Josiah's Bay is the place.
My wife and I have stayed at the Tamarind Club four times, and it gets better every time. It is the perfect place to stay for your first and last night if you are chartering in the BVI. It is also great for those who want a very private, yet casual place to escape for an extended period.
Although it is not on the water, the level of service (and bartending) more than makes up for it.
Finally, if you like to go where the locals go when they have the time off, Tamarind is the place. Their Sunday brunch is the best on Tortola, and you can gorge yourself in your bikini or surf trunks without feeling out-of-place. |

They had a great bar, but the rooms were too rustic for us. Visited: May 2006 |

We had to spend our last night on Tortola due to an extra early flight after our stay on Virgin Gorda. While we were welcomed with open arms and wonderful drinks at the Tamarind Club, the rooms were a bit too rustic for us.
We paid for the night, but chose to stay at another place on Tortola. I think it is okay if you are fine with rustic, but it was just too rustic for us.
The entire staff was so nice to us, but if you want a higher end place to stay, this is not for you. Visit the bar for drinks and dinner instead. |

This is a wonderful place to stay. It is very peaceful and quiet where all the sounds of nature can be heard.
The Tamarind staff is friendly and they make everyone feel at home. Cindy is very nice, but more reserved, while Eric is more relaxed and fun. Clint does a wonderful job - as do all the bartenders. They seem to all love what they do (who wouldn't?).
By renting a car, I found it very easy to navigate the island from this location. Josiah's Bay, just minutes away, is a beautiful surfers' beach that is perfect for anyone. |

I had the wonderful opportunity of staying at the delightful Tamarind Club for two weeks, and it was a time I will never forget.
Each room seemed secluded and private. My room was one of several facing the spacious swim-up-to-the-bar pool. The trellis above the rooms was laden with pink and yellow allamandas and bougainvillea.
If you are greeted by Dalton, who obviously loves his work, he will make you a delicious "Ummm" drink if you aren't sure what you want.
The staff was warm, friendly, and efficient as well. And the food...well, I brought back a few extra pounds. I recommend Chef Suzie's slightly spicy Chicken Curry. And the rack of lamb was the best I've ever had. Although you could order a regular breakfast, I particularly enjoyed the fresh sliced fruit and various breads set out every morning.
Anyone who enjoys long walks on quiet beaches can take a short ten-minute walk to Jost Van Dyke beach nearby. Clint, the night bartender, and the rest of his crew made for an entertaining bunch in the evening hours. He had an excellent collection of all types of music he played for the guests.
One night a week live music was brought in the main area, and the guests and locals could join in with dancing. The second week I decided to turn in early, and by turning on my overhead fan I didn't even hear the music.
The Tamarind Club also had special events for the guests frequently, but mostly I found it to be a very relaxing place, quiet quaint and casual.
I would definitely make a return visit to The Tamarind Club. |

We stayed at the Tamarind Club and absolutely enjoyed ourselves.
The people were great, the music was great, and the food was excellent.
I would recommend this as both a great place before and after charter, or for a week of rest. |

We endured constant, very loud music throughout the property. Visited: March 2005 |

Do not consider staying at the Tamarind Club if you are seeking quiet countryside, the sound of chirping birds, or afternoon siestas.
This place played extremely loud music for 14 or 16 hours a day, emanating from the bar area which adjoined the pool and all the rooms that surrounded it. On the other hand, if you want to listen to Peter Tosh and the Gypsy Kings and Marvin Gaye played at force nine all day and night, you will love the ambience.
Unless you shut down your windows and doors tight, and crank the small air conditioning unit in your room, you don't have a shot at eliminating the noise. We had the misfortune of staying in the Honeymoon Suite, which was located a few yards behind the bar. At night, the local entertainment set up their speaker (the size of a refrigerator), and even with our room shut down tight and the a.c. blaring, the music was loud enough to shake our bed and our bones.
The management was adamant about their right to play music at such hideous high volumes until after midnight; they gave me a pair of foam ear plugs! Had we been able to find another room nearby, we would have been out of there really fast! |

This hotel was situated on a quiet country road, near beautiful, uncrowded Josiah's Bay beach, was good for surfing in the winter.
Also, the upper level veranda rooms were the best. The bar was fun, and the food was sublime. The staff was friendly and efficient. |

My fiance and I stayed at Tamarind the first night it opened under new ownership while we were on Tortola planning our wedding.
The hotel was fresh and the grounds nice, but the bar is the magnet and will draw you to it. The owners warmly greeted us and we felt like family before we left; a quality that was reflected in the food and the service (or was it the strange power of the bar again?).
The owner's plans are already in motion to renovate rooms and bathroom amenities, and once this is complete, Tamarind will become the perfect little tropical hillside hideaway.
If you are chartering in the BVI, it is the ideal place to ease into island mode after a day of travel and before you start your sail and then again after your sea excursion, for one last island drink (or 12) before jetting back to reality.
If you don't stay here, don't cheat yourself. Go see the best bar (you notice a trend here) in the BVI and have Clint mix your lady a "Legspreader" while you both enjoy his fantastic music selection. Chances are, you'll wish you were spending the night. |

I recently stayed at The Tamarind Club. The new owners have completely revamped the bar and remodeled the pool. The bar is the sexiest bar I have ever seen. The food is outstanding, and the staff is the friendliest we have found. I would say that it is a must for those wanting quiet and freindly surroundings. |

The Tamarind was affordable, with great staff, but a bit rustic. Visited: January 2004 |

The staff was very friendly, and they served good food and cocktails. You must have a welcome rum drink! They will immediately put you in relaxation mode.
The rooms were a good size and clean, but I would describe them as very rustic. Air conditioning and a small fridge were provided, but the bed and linens were just fair. There were no extras, it was very simplistic.
The hotel was fairly isolated and was not on the beach. However, there was a fantastic remote beach just a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
As much as I enjoyed the staff, it would not be my place of choice unless I wanted to stay for a night or two to be near Josiah's Bay. Renting of a car would be necessary for more than a night or two, otherwise cab fares will make a big dent in your budget.

A disappointing Honeymoon Suite Visited: July 2003 |

We stayed one night. The food was great and the staff was very friendly. We were greated by a jovial bartender who offered us a welcome drink. If you stay here, eat here. Chef Mo does a great job. However our room was a bit of a disappointment. The shower needed cleaning, the airconditioning did not work well, and we could not open the windows to get any breeze. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and I would say try one of the other rooms. Perhaps they are nicer. |

I stayed here for a long weekend and had a wonderful time.
The staff was very helpful and always pleasant. The food was great, too.
When I go back to Tortola I will definitely stay at the Tamarind Club. |

Cool down mon was the greeting - have a complimentary drink and let me take you bags to the room - no hurry. The staff is wonderful and the rates are a bargain. The hotel is not on the beach but it's just a short walk to Josiah's Bay and one of the most beautiful and uncrowded beaches on the island. We were just looking for a reasonable place to stay towards the end of our trip and were very pleased. The area is isolated, however, so if you plan on spending time in town, plan on taking taxis. |

My wife and my 16-month old son stayed here for a week and used the hotel as a home base for our island exploration. The hotel has a very friendly staff, a cozy poolside setting and an excellent restaurant. Try the mouth-watering Mango and Tamarind Baby Back Ribs, and don’t forget a Tamarind Daiquiri. Hotel manager Dawn and her staff were very attentive. The only minor complaints were the few mosquitoes that seemed to find their way through the screens at night and we would have liked a bit more frequent changing of the bed sheets. However, you can't beat this place for the price in high season. It's not on the beach but there are so many beautiful beaches on Tortola, that you wouldn't want to spend all your time at one. The hotel was accommodating to our son, although Tortola's amenities as a whole are not particularly child-oriented, especially for a 16-month-old. |

We just happened to stay here on a recommendation from the charter company as a place to hang our hats for a night after the cruise. Dawn was a wonderful hostess and she happened to make a mean "Center of the Universe." You'll have to stay here to find out what that is. If you've never tasted a fresh Tamarind you're in for a surprise!
The kitchen was top shelf and the swim-up bar was great. A nice walk down the hill to the beach takes you through the real Tortola.
You won't be disappointed for a short stay!

| The newly reopened and renovated Tamarind Club Hotel is situated on the north side of Tortola, on a lush tropical hillside. Josiah's Bay, one of the BVI's most beautiful beaches, is located just a short distance away. The site is secluded, elegant and intimate with your every need... |
