Condo’s need a major reconstruction, we where unable to sleep in the condo because the AC unit was too loud! Even worse you could not sit outside because the exhaust vents out HEAT onto the small balcony. The Rio Mar Realty was no help because the condos are privately owned. Nothing is included, No Bar, No Beach umbrellas, Hot tub was broken, No amenities and don’t forget to bring your own Toilet Paper.

WhereToStay.com comment: Mike, sorry you had a bad experience renting from Rio Mar Realty. I believe if you had rented from WhereToStay.com you would have had a very different experience. The villas we represent, like the one pictured, are impeccably maintained, newly remodeled, and even have a concierge to help you. This is not true of the whole complex. Our villas have a full kitchen and you have full access to the hotel next door and all its amenities. This is one of the most popular villas on the site and everyone we send loves it. Many repeat guests. Sorry you had a bad experience.

Overall, I had a nice Ocean Villas experience. Visited: December 2006

Ocean Villas II was a lovely and well maintained facility. Local personnel was very nice and helpful.

It had all the needed items such as a kitchen, and an in-unit washer and dryer which would be very helpful for a group that included small children. It was also very nice to be able to use all the facilities at the neighboring Westin Rio Mar. However, it was disappointing that we could not set up a charge account, but had to Visa each expenditure individually; a pain.

Ocean Villas is in a beautiful location, and a very well maintained property Visited: February 2006

Ocean Villas 11 was a beautiful property. The views from the deck were magnificient. We were three adults and two children - ages five and three - and we had a great vacation.

We stayed in a two-bedroom, first floor unit. The decor was lovely, and daily maid service was very efficient. The staff was very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay.

The pools were well maintained, and we had them to ourselves most days. It was very peaceful. The surf was a little rough during our stay, so we used to walk up to the Westin beach where there were lifeguards.

The restaurant, Aqua Luna at the Villas, was outstanding. The service was great - and so was the food. A five-minute walk took us to the Westin hotel. The shuttle bus that takes you to it is supposed to come around every 15 to 20 minutes, but we found it best to call the Westin and say that we were waiting as not all shuttles followed the proscribed route each time.

All of the restaurants at the Westin were very good. The Iguana Pub and The Grill Room at the Golf Club were excellent. Palio was also very good.

Marbella had good food, but the atmosphere was that of a "hotel" restaurant. But it was fine for the first night, and did not require reservations. We did not eat at Shimas, as it was only open two nights during our stay.

The Club Coqui was fun for the kids as we could eat outdoors and they could dance to the music without interupting our dinner or other guests.

The beach bar was fairly typical of resort bars - noisy, with a very limited and expensive lunch menu. But it was fun for those who like that sort of thing. We would recommend planning your meals in advance and getting reservations made through the concierge before you go, this gives you the opportunity to get the times and locations of your choice.

All restaurants were kid-friendly, although personally, we felt that Palio and the Grill room were more date-friendly and decided to feed the kids beforehand.

Mandara Spa was very tranquil and they had a good selection of treatments. It was very easy to get appointments, and the service was great. We are not golfers, so we did not play golf. However, we overheard many people saying they found the course challenging and enjoyed their time there. The tennis courts were not in use much, so it was easy to get a game in when you wanted to.

We also availed of the Kids' Club a few times and they loved it. The Kids' Club staff also lit a bonfire each night and made S'mores - it doesn't get better than that.

We would highly recommend the Villas for your vacation

Ocean Villas II was comfortable, well-located and hospitable. Visited: December 2005

The condos were comfortable and well laid out, but need refurbishing. The service was difficult to pin down, although the people couldn't have been nicer.

The closeness to the hotel with the use of all its facilities and little of the hassle was ideal.

This was the best vacation we've experienced in the last ten years. We are definitely coming back.

They had clean and comfortable units, and provided attentive service. There were very few people in the pool and at the beach. We also had access to all of the Westin Rio Mar's facilities, which was a great plus.

It was a beautiful location, but we received horrible service. Visited: March 2005

We arrived at Ocean Villas II on a Sunday to find that there was not one staff person on site to provide us with a key. After two hours, we did finally track someone down to let us in.

In the unit, the air conditioning was not working. The telephone did not work, and the kitchen was woefully understocked with dishware, utensils and cookware. However, the beds were comfortable and the view from the unit was spectacular. While the AC did get repaired on the second day, the telephone never was repaired.

We were advised that these units were supposed to have a concierge on site. It was three days into our trip before we ever saw someone.

Advice to take to heart---rent a car at the airport---do not rely on the transportation at the Ocean Villas or the Westin. We confirmed on at least three occasions for transportation back to the airport, and the person never showed up. It was a nightmare.

Also, if you plan on doing any tours or activities around the island, make arrangements before you arrive. Or, at a minimum, take phone numbers for the tours or activities you wish to do. While the Westin did have a number of tours, you can book directly with the same tour agencies for half the price. I stress, bring phone numbers with you! We asked the concierge for a phone book and they acted like they didn't know what we were talking about.

The villa was nice and right on ocean. It was a beautiful resort. Visited: February 2005

Pick up at the airport was smooth. But we were just dropped off at the villas without much information or instruction. We contracted for a unit with a washer/dryer. We were given a unit without a washer/dryer. After complaining we were moved away from the families we were traveling with to another unit with a washer/dryer. This unit was very nice but the air conditioning did not work in the master bedroom. The villas are not affiliated with the main hotel. After much discussion with the front desk at the main hotel they allowed us to open a room charge. This makes spending money much easier in a resort setting. Why should it have been so difficult? There should be a better relationship between the hotel and the villa guests.
