It was just not up to par. Visited: September 2008

We stayed for a week, thought we could have stayed somewhere nicer. We went in the off season, and still paid about $1,100 for the week (and that was not all inclusive).

They say it is "beachfront", but there was not much of a beach. The water there was full of seaweed and pebbles.

The restaurants on site were average at best. Iggies was average bar food with a Caribbean flair. The calamari was tasty, but not well prepared, and the hamburger wasn't prepared correctly. The Lobster Grill was overpriced, and the service was exceptionally slow.

Be prepared to take a taxi everywhere and pay a minimum of $8.00 per person per way.

The rooms had an older-feel, and did have a "staunchy" odor to them. The bathrooms were barely large enough for one person - much less two. Also, the shower was so small - and we never had hot water. In addition, the bugs were horrible...bring bug spray.

You can't beat the Bolongo! Visited: May 2008

Our trip to St. Thomas (May 5-8, 2008) was absolutely amazing - and we owe it all to the wonderful staff at the Bolongo!

From our room to lounging at the pool, we couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and enjoyable experience. We haven't stopped talking about it since arriving home, and we've already started planning a return trip with our family for next year.

My husband won a trip to St. Thomas from his employer, and we were given three resorts to choose from. After spending hours on web sites and reading reviews, we knew that the Bolongo was where we wanted to be. We loved the fact that most of the staff have been with the resort for many years, and that it is a smaller, more intimate place to stay.

All-inclusive is the way to go! You never have to worry about carrying cash or cards. The food at both the Lobster Grille and Iggie's is first rate. We ate lunch at Iggie's (my husband loved the fish and fries), and we enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the Lobster Grille.

Everything about dinner was a wonderful experience. From the presentation of the meal to enjoying the sounds of Sammy Watts, it doesn't get any better than this. Chef Rob takes the time to greet guests. Our waiters, Albert and Victor, were attentive and very friendly no matter how busy they were. Carla will put a smile on your face when you have breakfast at the Lobster Grille, as well. Bring an appetite, because the portions are huge!

We'll be returning in 2009 - and for many years thereafter!

We had an amazing honeymoon. Visited: April 2008

Our honeymoon at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort will be a memory that will be with us forever. We did the all-inclusive Island Bliss Package, and we would recommend it whether you are there for a honeymoon, anniversary or just because.

We had such a marvelous time that words can't describe it. We can't stop talking about how wonderful everything was, and how friendly the staff treated us.

The food was excellent at both Lobster Grille and Iggies. We felt like family after we had been here for one day.

We are already planning our first anniversay here next April.

It was heaven on earth. Visited: March 2008

My husband and I spent ten glorious days at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort - and loved every moment of it!

We went with a group of 17, ours being the first time. Most of them had been coming for years, and two of them were teenagers not wanting to hang out with a bunch of "old" people. But, I bet if you ask them, they would tell you they had a great time, too.

From the moment we arrived, we were treated like we had been coming for years, also. The staff was very curteous and attentive. The beach was quiet and private, and the rooms were clean and sufficient.

The restaurants had great food, and the staff always kept your drinks filled. The day and evening sails on "Heavenly Days" were fabulous, calm and relaxing. It was exactly what we needed for our getaway.

So for all of you with your bad reviews expecting a luxury, fancy pants resort, then I guess you should have stayed somewhere else. However, if you are looking for privacy, just being casual, laying back and relaxing and being well taken care of, then Bolongo Bay Resort is the place for you.

It had plenty of activities for all the family, too. Taxis were available to take you into town for shopping. I didn't find there was anything else we needed to have a memorable vacation. We look forward to returning next year.

This place was great. Visited: January 2008

I loved it! It was exactly what I wanted. It was a small, private place away from the hub-bub of the city - but close enough to get there by cab.

Having a private beach was great, and the food was five-star quality. In addition, the staff was excellent. I recommend doing the all-inclusive.

I will definitely go back.

We would return. Visited: December 2007

For what we paid for our stay, I thought Bolongo Bay was worth it. However, next time I would consider all-inclusive. Yes, I would go back there a second time.

For the most part, most of the staff were genuinely nice people. A few were rude, but I chalked that to their having to work long, busy hours during the holiday season.

I enjoyed the catamaran rides on Heavenly Days. Bolongo Bay is reasonably priced, with simple, nice accomodations. The food was overpriced, but then again, so was the food practically everywhere on the island.

There's nothing better than Bolongo! Visited: December 2007

We arrived at Bolongo at about 5:00 pm. After arriving from the airport, we were met by staff with an open front door. We also saw our name as a welcome card on the bulletin board!

We were quickly shuttled off to our requested room on the beach. What a treat! The front door was on the parking lot side and the back door was just seven stepping stone to the beach and a hammock.

Because we chose to go all-inclusive (which I recommend), we went to explore our home for the next six days. We were met by many smiling faces. We soon found the happy hour at the pool bar with free rum punch and appetizers.

Our room was very accommodating and comfortable. We had a mini fridge, microwave, and a TV.

Every day at Bolongo was awesome. The staff was wonderful - the wait staff; Kizzie at the pool bar; Viola in the morning showing us to our breakfast table, Gloria with her constant smile; and Leslie, the groundskeeper. He was a real treat. Also, the dinner staff was super.

The food was perfect at the Lobster Grille, and Iggie's was great fun.

We were at Bolongo for the annual Super Bowl tailgate party. That was fun! It was on the beach. I didn't know whether to watch the beach activities or the football game!

We have stayed other places on the island, but this was, by far, our favorite place.

We will most definitely return ASAP, and look forward to seeing our new friends again!

The room was kind of "Motel 6-ish" from the early 90s. However, the service and food were fantastic.

Aside from the sand fleas, the beach was beautiful!

We had an all-inclusive package, which covered drinks and all the food for five days. We were two adults and two children, and paid $5,000 (including flight from California to St. Thomas to New York back to California). It was a pretty good deal for the money we paid.

I would stay here again.

Stop...don't do it! Visited: June 2007

The beach is terrible, stony and has weeds in the water. The food is terrible for the price, and service is very slow.

Also, the rooms are dark and dingy, and the bathroom has no exhaust fan making it very hot and humid. It is nothing like the pictures show.

In addition, it is mosquito infiltrated, and they have cans of "Off Bug Spray" sitting throughout resort for visits to use before being seated - and it doesn't help!

I thought it was a horrible and unsafe resort! Visited: June 2007

Do not stay at this resort! We went to the beach for a couple of hours, and had a large sum of money stolen while the maids were in our room! We did not get our money back!

Also, the rooms were dirty, and there was no hot water the entire week of our stay! The service was horrible, too.

The beach was full of rocks and seeweed, as well.

Overall, it was way overpriced! There are much better resorts elsewhere on the island!

Bolongo Bay is a great secluded get away! Visited: April 2007

Today we watched our Bolongo Bay slide show for the umteenth time! We had such a great vacation! Bolongo and the staff were outstanding!

Many thanks to Harry for the poolside frozen libations! I told my son that he was Santa, and after Christmas he can be found at Bolongo!

We would also like to thank Simon, who greeted us with a big smile every morning, and helped set up our rides for the day trips.

Bolongo had a secluded feel, and the entire staff seemed more like friends. That is a feeling that cannot be dupilcated in a big resort setting. We met many new friends, and hope to see you all again soon!

Many thanks for a lifetime of memories!

Heavenly Days Visited: October 2006
Posted by kimannludwig
We went to St. Thomas over our birthdays, mine October 13, and my husband's October 14. It was the best birthday ever! Our family stayed for 4 days at the condo and it was amazing, Heavenly Days for sure! This was our first visit to the island and an all inclusive stay. The days seemed endless, the sights were unbelievable, and the entire time was great. Our condo was very nice with an amazing view of the bay. The staff all were very welcoming and helpful. The food at both Iggies and the Beach House was wonderful, and we were never hungry. We rented a car and took the advise of some of the staff and visited the different beaches, each one was beautiful. Our kids snorkeled forever and seen many fish and even a sea turtle. My son who graduates in June is now looking to go to school at the campus on the island for oceanography. If he is accepted you will be seeing us again on many occasion. I would also love to come down during carnival, that would be so much fun.

Thanks for everything,
Kim and Jay Ludwig

No disappointment here! Visited: September 2006
Posted by tammy
This was my second trip to Bolongo! I was here last year in May, and stayed at the condos with my family. This time, it was just the girls - my cousin, my sister and me.

Our oceanview room was great. We had the best time. We enjoyed everyone we met at the resort. The staff made us feel very welcome, and were extremely helpful with any question we had for them.

Iggie's became a favorite spot for dinner, and the waitstaff and karaoke was great. The day we went to St. John, we had the entire beach of Cinnamon Bay to ourselves. If you don't like crowds, come to the islands in September.

The only thing that was disappointing was the length of our stay. It was way too short! We want to come back and bring one more of the rowdy girls with us next year!

Thanks, Bolongo Bay, for making this a truly memorable vacation for us.

Do not believe the photos or the positive reviews. I suggest you sleep in your car - it will be nicer than this place.

I thought it was a rip off. It was dirty, I received terrible service, the beach was small, and the food was horrible.

This was true paradise! Visited: July 2006

My husband and I got married at Bolongo Bay on July 29, 2006, and it was wonderful.

The day of our wedding it rained all day, which made the "beach wedding" impossible. Instead, we got married in the Beach House, and it was beautiful.

Everyone was so nice, and did everything they could to make our day special - Allison especially. She was wonderful. She took care of everything with a smile on her face.

Bolongo Bay was a wonderful resort that I want to go back to for sure. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, and the people were wonderful!

Also, the view from our room was beautiful. We could not have asked for a better time. We had the all-inclusive package, and it was worth it! I wouldn't do it any other way than that.

The only time we left the resort was when we went into town shopping and to do a few things for the wedding. Besides that, everything we needed was right at the resort.

A few family members and close friends came along, and they all loved it! I would very highly recommend this resort to anyone. I know we will be back. So, thank you again Bolongo Bay. We had a wonderful time!

This was the perfect getaway. Visited: April 2006

We spent our honeymoon here from April 18th 2006 to April 23rd 2006 and found it to be the perfect getaway. It was secluded just enough for privacy and safety, but not so much that you have to drive forever to get to town.

The staff was wonderful and very polite. The rooms were comfortable and clean at all times. The entertainment was great, too. There was always something to do for all ages.

The view was magnificent, and my wife and I loved it here. Also, being our first Caribbean vacation, it was more than we had expected. I would very highly recommend this resort to anyone. Thanks to all your staff for a job well done. We can't wait to visit again.

This was the worst resort I've ever stayed in! Visited: February 2006
Posted by nspivak
We were with a party of 12 that stayed one week at Bolongo Bay. Our room had no hot water in the shower the entire week, the room had a bad odor, and the bathroom sink had the same glob of white toothpaste on the faucet the day we left, that was there when we checked in.

We paid Taj Mahal prices for accommodations that weren't even up to Motel 6 standards! The service at Iggie's beach restaurant was very poor, and the food was mediocre. We found thee bathrooms attached to the two restaurants to be disgusting - filthy and bad smelling.

Taxi prices to go anywhere else on the island were a minimum of $8 per person each way, even if it was only a couple miles.

Also, the maids would stand outside guest rooms bickering. It seemed to be a very unorganized and disfunctional organization! The sand fleas or "no see ums" were very bad, and have left us with very itchy bites that haven't gone away after a week.

All in all, this is the last place I would ever recommend to anyone!

Bolongo Bay Beach Club was as advertised. Visited: February 2006
Posted by vandyike
We just returned from eight days at Bologno. We stayed beachfront all-inclusive. We made reservations here based on what we read in the reviews here and elsewhere. We were not disappointed.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were not five-star, but were clean and comfortable. We had two double beds and plenty of room. The bath was fine, except the shower stall was rather small.

The beach had plenty of sand and palm trees. It was rather stoney at the water, so you would need water shoes. There were plenty of water sport options that were well supervised. The swimming pool seemed small, but was never crowded.

They had two restaurants and bars. The Beach House restaurant was more upscale, while Iggies was a true beach bar. The food at both locations was excellent –as were the drinks. We did not eat at either of the buffet nights.

Also, we took the Heavenly Day catamaran to St. John for snorkeling and swimming. They seemed to always have something scheduled during the day - snorkel for rum, iguana toss, etc.

To summarize, it sure was not a five-star standard as much of the furnishings could be upgraded. However, it was a five-star vacation for us.
