When I read the other reviews I was sceptical that it could be that good. It was! Sue and Buddy were the best. Whatever we needed they would furnish it even WD 40 for removing sticker glue. We loved the place, the views, everything. There were four of us that shared a double bedroom room. So pretty and clean. The bananas off her tree were so good. If or when we go back we will surely stay at The Green Iguana again. Thanks Sue and Buddy! People like you are what makes a good vacation great.

Do not use VIP Yacht Charters (www.vipyachts.com) on St. Thomas.
Posted by blondijones
I would highly recommend not using them ever!
In August 2007, we paid in full for two boats from VIP Yacht Charters. One in October (44MY) and one in December (59MY).
Once we were on the 44 in October, we realized that the December boat we were taking was going to be too much of a hassle not to have a full crew (we had a seven-month-old grandbaby going). We could either go on and take the 59 (which we had paid in full ($10k), but not take the grandbaby or broker another boat with a full crew to help out.
We talked to the owner (Bob). He said he understood, and we could reschedule for another time. I called in January, and he said just call him closer in. My husband called him, and he said he would “see what he could do”. We then received an email saying after talking to the owner of the boat, they decided they could not let us use our credit but would be happy to give us a 20% discount on our next charter.
First of all, if he would have told us we would have lost our money, we would have changed the trip plans and left the baby at home on this trip. I think it was all just a plan for him to keep our 10k! Yes, the contract indicated it was non-refundable. However, when you have a discussion with the owner and he says everything is fine… you take it for face value.
We charter on average six to eight weeks a year in the VIs - everything from 44ft bareboats to megayachts and have never been lied to like this. In my opinion, they are dishonest. If you value your money, don't use them!

My boyfriend and I visited The Bunker Hill Inn November of 2007, and had a fantastic time. We stayed in a large suite, with a mini refrigerator; a stand-up shower that was cleaned daily; an AC; TV; a bed that seemed larger than king sized; and a balcony overlooking the downtown area.
The staff was polite, hospitable and courteous.
We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. My boyfriend and I are vegetarians, and were unable to eat the sausages and other meats served, though. We purchased our own vegetarian products from a local market, and asked the cook to prepare them for us. They had no problem fulfilling our request. As thanks, we left a tip every morning.
The only thing that was a negative, was that they did not have an elevator. So, if you have a heavy load, or hate climbing stairs, you'll have to select another hotel. We used the stairs as our daily exercise.
I loved the hotel because it was affordable, and near the shopping areas and restaurants.
When you come here, you have to try the lobster at Green House. It was delicious! My boyfriend ate so much I thought he would turn into a lobster. Enjoy!

We were here for seven nights. He had a great view from our room (5336). We also had privacy, and the room was clean.
Most every staff member here was friendly. Karl, the manager, was great! Coco Joe's had good food, but I don't think they care if you starve to death before they serve you.
Frenchman's Reef is in no way as nice as Morning Star. I went there for one night for hurricane evacuation. I encountered rude management. Also, the first floor smelled of mold.

A couple buildings were being jack hammered so that they could tear out a section of one side of the wall at a time and work around the entire building to re-pour concrete in. I was told it was to fix cracks caused by 30 years of earthquakes.
That would never fly in the states, and I pray for future occupants when the upper and lower seams of
The newly poured concrete seperates from the original walls. FYI what grade of concrete do you think they have on the islands? I would think definitely not enough (strength/ lbs per square inch) to support many stories above it.
Two of the pools have jack hammered holes in them, and are closed for construction.
WiFi is only at the lobby, and we couldn't pay to get it in the room.
The front desk and management were very rude, and did not seem to be interested in being friendly or happy. Forget asking about WiFi, fixing the cable that went down every other hour, or other stuff because they just seemed to want to check you in and take your money.
The activities girl, Kim, and the people at the bar were amazingly refreshing and a highlight of the resort.

We stayed for a week with a family group of 26. The hotel was dirty, disorganized and boring.
The food was ridiculously expensive, $11 for a plain waffle.
The staff was rude and unfriendly to us. They seemed to pretend they could not hear us when we asked for something, like perhaps a refill on coffee (which was $3 a cup - and not even good!).
The only positive thing was the beach, it was beautiful.
Transportation into town was also very expensive, and everyone seemed to want only one thing - tips and your money. I don't think they would have blinked if we would have dropped dead.
I'm sorry to be such a downer, but once you have been to Hawaii and know what quality is, St. Thomas and the Marriott stinks.

This is an ultra lux St. Thomas villa rental with a private beach.Visited: May 2008

My best girlfriend got married in May 2008 and I had offered to do the preliminary travel research to help find a romantic wedding and honeymoon location. She wanted to have a beach wedding and honeymoon in the Caribbean, and she finally (after weeks of research) decided on renting a private luxury villa called Sand Dollar Estate.
Sand Dollar is the only private St. Thomas villa rental that has its own private beach.
The villa arranged everything - including the reception at the villa and the wedding party accommodation. The villa was huge, and 22 people stayed there in much nicer settings than any hotel. I was one of the lucky guests staying at the villa for the wedding and reception, and it turned out to be the most fabulous setting ever.
My girlfriend and her new husband, stayed in the villa's honeymoon cottage which was a separate adorable building close to the villa's private sandy beach. I've seen so many weddings at resorts like Sandals and other places where it just seemed so public and unromantic because of other vacationers in the bathing suits or shorts strolling by during the ceremony and wedding party photos. My friend's wedding took place on the villa's private white sand beach, and there were no "uninvited" guests or spectators.
I highly recommend it.

We stayed for a week, thought we could have stayed somewhere nicer. We went in the off season, and still paid about $1,100 for the week (and that was not all inclusive).
They say it is "beachfront", but there was not much of a beach. The water there was full of seaweed and pebbles.
The restaurants on site were average at best. Iggies was average bar food with a Caribbean flair. The calamari was tasty, but not well prepared, and the hamburger wasn't prepared correctly. The Lobster Grill was overpriced, and the service was exceptionally slow.
Be prepared to take a taxi everywhere and pay a minimum of $8.00 per person per way.
The rooms had an older-feel, and did have a "staunchy" odor to them. The bathrooms were barely large enough for one person - much less two. Also, the shower was so small - and we never had hot water. In addition, the bugs were horrible...bring bug spray.

Okay, first I am really not that picky. I would crash here again if I had to. However, the lady at the desk acted like we showed up a whole day early when we arrived at 2 pm rather then 3 pm.
We stowed our stuff and hit the beach. The lounge chairs where locked up, and we felt like thieves or something trying to convince the guy with the key that we were guests.
The beach was right there and the water was great. The room was musty, and it needed a coat of paint. We didn't stay in it except to sleep, so that was okay.
We ate at the hotel next door, Best Western. Also, we had drinks at their bar. It was such a better atmosphere, and super friendly. We wish we would have checked that one out more.
If you don't have high expections and just need a one nighter, you can't beat the convience to the airport. There was nothing here really horrible for a 24-hour stay, but I sure would not spend my whole vacation here.

Buddy and Sue, the managers, were efficient, friendly and very accommodating in helping us choose local restaurants, summon taxis, etc.
There were six of us staying in three different rooms. We all appreciated the security of the coded-front entry, and then the locks on the individual room doors (as other reviewers have remarked).
Housekeeping was not a problem for us. The room decor was cheery, and the rooms were spacious. Because there were smokers in our group, all could enjoy the smoke-free rooms, but still enjoy sitting together on the outside patio connecting the buildings.
We will definitely recommend the Green Iguana, and we also hope for return visits here ourselves. All of us considered the G.I. to be a lovely secret, and one we're so glad to have happened upon.
Thanks to our hosts, Buddy and Sue, who never wearied of our silly tourist questiions!

I must admit that when we first arrived, things did look a little shaky. However, to my hubby's and my amazement, it was the perfect place for a couple to spend special time together.
The restaurants and shopping were all in good walking distance. Everything was nice and clean. The crew who worked here, Doug and Cindy, were awesome.
So what that we did not have the luxury of a large headboard in the bedroom, or a washing machine and dryer on the premises! Nor, did we have a cute little gym that many people pay for but never use.
What we did have was a whole week of nothing but the best service from the owners. We had clean sheets and towels upon request. Also, we saved a lot of money by walking to Frenchtown and Charlotte Amalie because of the pricy taxi rides.

We discovered Havana Blue during our first visit to St. Thomas in 2005, and absolutely loved it. My husband, my teen son and I each had the lobster - pricy, but absolutely delicious.
The view of the water is stunning, with an occasional cruise ship passing by.
On our last visit, I discovered their blueberry and vanilla martini. We will be returning there in a few weeks, as this is now a regular stop for us.

It was beyond what we expected for this quiet island off of St. Thomas.
The staff was very accommodating, and the eco-friendly cabins and bathouse were very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed great views, and had plenty of time for quiet and a quick trip for night life.
We will be back.

One half of our volleyball group stayed here this past weekend. Instead of a relaxing stay, they were robbed, and harassed by the staff of this hotel.
Upwards of $1200 worth of iPods, cameras, cash, clothing, and other electronics were stolen out of the room, which, conveniently was on the top floor (and had no sign of forced entry). No other rooms were touched.
Instead of offering help with this disturbing matter, the owners simply said "sorry" and then proceeded to accuse the men of making false statements.
One employee even called another bed and breakfast owner (who happened to be hosting the other half of the group and is a personal friend), and made rude and defamatory remarks towards our entire group of travelers. He even went so far as to accuse us of breaking into the honor bar, which we never even saw.
Although they claim 'locked' entry ways and 'barbed wire', these were nowhere to be found. No discount was offered, and the men had already paid the bill in full.
Leaving this beautiful island with a bad taste in our mouths wasn't in our travel plans. We will come back to St. Thomas, but will never stay at this unprofessionally run hotel again.

Renters beware! They charged us an extra $200 for excessive water and electricity. When I asked how much electricity we used, she advised that she had not received the bill yet! When I asked her how she could charge us when she did not know how much electricity we used, she advised "it is at my discretion".
We have been to St. Thomas four times in the last eight years, and we know how precious the resources are. That is why we tried diligently to save water and electricity.
She also charged us $20 for toilet paper, $20 to wash two dishes in the sink, and $20 to move a clock downstairs (after we moved the clock upstairs as the clock there did not work).
We were also charged another $100 for menial tasks. Not to mention that we were awakened every morning before 8:00 am by construction workers working all around the property.
Also, the owners live on the property, and use the pool and other things. Therefore, there is no privacy. They also expect you to wash the towels you use - which means taking time out of your vacation to go to a laundromat (which will cost you $20 per load).
The owners were not willing to work with us. We paid $2000 for the week, so for them to keep the majority of our deposit left a bitter taste.
Owner's Comment
They were charged $200 for excessive water & electricity usage. They used over 2,500 gallons of water and I have since received my electric bill--$811.62. We received a new load of water (3,500 gallons) the day before they arrived and when they left there was less than 1,000 gallons remaining. The air conditioner was running with the windows open and the lights in the lower unit were left on all night every night that they were here. Regarding the toilet paper, they were charged $3 (not $20) for the third 4 pack--we provide 2 4 packs per unit per week. Regarding the dishes, it was not 2 dishes, it was a whole sinkful--our rental agreement clearly states tenants are to leave the units in the condition which they found them, that includes returning dishes, linens and any other items they have moved to the appropriate units and washing their own dishes. It was not just a clock--I made several trips up and down the stairs moving linens, dishes and the clock back to the correct units and my time does have some value. There was not another $100 charged for menial tasks, rather there was a $50 charge for repair/adjustment of 3 sliding screens which were damaged or left off the tracks. I have a handy man who does work for me and he just insists on being paid for these "menial" tasks. My neighbor is repairing/rebuilding her house from hurricane damage. She is a very considerate lady and has instructed her workers to find quiet work to do from their arrival at 6 AM until they see our guests moving about outside the units. I am happy to report, for her sake as well as ours, that the repairs are almost complete (and it has turned out beautifully!). As mentioned in the review and in my advertisement on this page, my home is on the property so I know that her workers respected this request. By the way, we do occasionally use the pool when guests are here, but only if they are not using it--on the one occasion when we went to the pool, the guests were snorkeling in the ocean. Regarding the comment on washing your own beach towels, there was NEVER any mention in any of our conversations about towels--there was no charge for excessive laundry and I have no idea where this towel comment is coming from, and laundry does not cost $20 per load down here. I wouldn't want my guests to do any laundry anyway due to the water and electric usage--I would rather combine it after they leave to conserve both water and electricity. Concerning my refusal to work with them, after she called the first time, I issued an additional refund check for 2 of the items that I agreed were incorrect. I did work with them, but the fact that they used over 2,500 gallons of water (value: approx $177) and approximately $150 in electricity in one week remains and since I only charged them a $200 fee, I would say they got the better end of the deal.

If you're looking for a private little piece of paradise with top notch service, consider staying at MVI. Steve and Leslie are the hosts, and they make the comfort and enjoyment of your stay a top priority.
The downstairs apartment is a private retreat all its own, with a completely equipped kitchen and beautiful decor throughout. The location is convenient to gorgeous Magens Bay, the town, and the St. John ferry - which worked out great for us.
Steve's cooking is unbelievable, from breakfast to dinner on the deck, everything is fresh and delicious! Steve and Leslie are also very helpful with recommending things to do around the island, and are all around just great people.
My fiance and I stayed here in March, and it was the perfect romantic getaway. There was lots of privacy, and we're looking forward to coming back to this fabulous bed and breakfast!

The staff was extremely rude, and the room was in horrible condition and filthy. I checked out the next morning. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The only redeeming feature was the Banana Tree restaurant, which was not affiliated with the hotel. The staff and food were great there.
